Yak 28 firebear hobby model

Dear all - here are pics from a building diary of HOBBY MODEL YAK-28.
This aircraft served as an interceptor between mid 60's to mid 70's and for most of the time only inside former USSR , although for a short period of time Russia operated small number in Egypt in the early 70's as an electronic warfare plane circa 1971. The interceptor carried 2 IR and 2 Radar guided missiles.

Very nice build Yair. I love the lines on that aircraft.

Yak 28 Firebear

Hi Gary Isaac and Don - thanks for your reply.
The Yak 28 is a rather big plane in size ( 21 m including pitot) and is one of many forgotten russian fighters. The production exceeds 1000 if we count the fighter bomber and other versions. The Yak is sitting low on wheels if we put it near the f-105 thud but is looking impressive by itself and the body has sleek lines and is also rather fast - max speed of 1900 kph or mach 1.8 !

Yes, but the Vautour was a development of the Me-262.

You are correct in noting the similarity in that both the Yak and the Vautour had bicycle landing gears.

Hi Isaac - the vautour had small struts coming from the engine bays that were called in french balancin. While in service in the IAF this system did not work all the time and 1 strout refused to come out so the pilot had a tactic of raising the opposite elevator while the mechanics gave a hand below the wing that needed a lift.
The Yak 25 with the round nose is called the russian Vatour although it was much inferior to the Vatour in terms of performance.
The Vatour was a very unique fighter and the main problem with it was the low power of the Atar engines. The prototypes with the british Avon engine had an amazing rate of climb -4 min to 40000 feet !
