F-8E Crusader - hobby model
I attach here inages of the last gun fighter - the F-8E Crusader.
A few details about this fighter. In Vietnam it had the best kill ratio against the migs 1:6 ! Much better than the F-4 Phantom. The F-8E was adapted to carry bombs and was used for ground attacks in Vietnam. There is a famius story about a mig 17 pilot who saw F-8 closing from behind on him so he choose to eject leaving the mig pilotless. Yair |

Looks magnificent, Yair!
Question 1: For the glossy finish, did you add it, or does it come like that on the kit? Question 2: I know the Crusader had variable wing incidence, and is a very notable characteristic of this plane. Does the kit allows you to build it with this feature? |

That is some excellent work Yair. Hadn't heard the story about the MiG-17 pilot before, got a chuckle out of that one.

Hi Isaac - this model belongs to the older ones that I have.
Never the less the type was always very interesting because of the uniqe shape ! Yair |

Hi Gerardo - thanks for your reply.
The model was sprayed by vernish lack. Now , when the type is new this methood gives excellent results . The problem is that after some 4 years the color start to show signs of yellow color. Because of that im no longer use spray on new models. In the wilhelmshavener F-8 model there was an optiom to build the retracting wing but not in the hobby model ( no.66 ). Still the hobby model is the better option. Yair |

Wonderful build, however the aviation mechanic in me must ponder why the flaps are
positioned in that "up" position? The flaps would be in a down position on any aircraft.

Hi Texman- the reason why they are in the up position is
to imitate a pre take off situation ! Yair |

Hi Paperengineer - thanks for your reply . I was a silnet member since Januaru 2012.
I started to show some of my models only this week. In Israel in the early sixties there was magazine of the air force that was issued every 3 months and a printed paper model included - mainly modified colors of wilhelmshavener models. I never counted the total number that I build but it's above 100. Today I have 50 at least. I wish you a sucess in your studying ! Yair |
