Sud- Ouest 9050 Trident & NORD GRIFFON 1500-2
Dear All,
Attached here photos of two French experimental planes from the fifties. During the fifties France was called "LAND OF THE PROTOTYPES". The reason was because many prototypes of jet aircraft reached flight status , some with excellent results but they never reached operational status mainly due to financial problems. Europe nations had a strong fear at the time from Russian bombers that will penetrate their air defenses and bomb cities with atomic bombs. The answer at the time was to create an interceptor that will be fast and with high rate of climb that will carry air to air missile that was designed to hit the bombers before they could reach their targets. The Trident was powered by two rocket engines with two auxiliary jets at the wings edges while the nord griffon used a ramjet engine around atar turbojet. Both experimental planes has an astonishing performance in terms of speed and rate of climb -mach 2 and 3 minutes to 50000 feet. At the end it was decided to go instead on the Mirage III as it was more conventional and far less expansive to put into service. Yair |

Nostalgic. Both the models and the real planes.
Very impressive to see them in person. I was lucky to see them at Le Bourget museum. Here are my pictures taken in 2007 Which kits are those? Continue sharing the models you built. Isaac

Hi Isaac - you are right that these two models are nostalgic as they reprsent aviation history that not every one is aware of.
The kits are as follows : The Trident is whilhelmshavener 1:50 scale. The Griffon is from Ecardmodels from the X plane section. The Griffon in particular was heavly reworked as the model is very basic. It includes many add ones. Yair |

If you want to build a newer Trident, there is a 1/33 scale version from the Polish company Answer. You can scale it down to 1/50 scale to match your other planes.
Here is a quick link to one that was recently built TRIDENT de ANSWER au 1/33 Isaac

Thanks Isaac -I didn't know about the answer Trident - it looks good.
Most of my models are scaled down to 1:48 and the minority 1:50. There is no problem to put the 2 scales side by side for comparation. Yair |
