Swept wing MIGS - 15 , 17 , 19 1:48 scale

Dear All,

I attach here photos of the swept wing mig family all in 1:48 scale.
Mig 19 GPM 120
Mig 17 Electronic card models
Mig 15 Ecardmodels.

In general the mig 17 is easily considered the best and the most successfull one of the trio.
That is not to say that the 15 and 19 were bad as both
were produced in huge numbers in China alone and served
in countless number of air forces around the globe.
Later I will bring more details about these migs from the IAF
perspective of fighting against them.

Those MiGs look combat ready bose
very elegant design and very precise model build Yair. They are combat proven designs that are very deadly when flown by well trained and highly skilled airforce pilots. Being involved in many international air engagements, manufactured number and simple but rigid airframes, these beauties are well known among people. I personally love them.

Thanks for sharing these amazing build photos and would be following up this thread for more updates.

Swept wing and speed relation mig 15,17,19.

I attach here images that shows the the relation between
speed and the swept wing sweep value in degrees.
The value is measured in the wing chord.
The mig 15 had 35 degrees - top speed 1070 kph
The mig 17 had 45 degrees- top speed 1150 kph
The mig 19 had 55 degrees- top speed 1400 kph

That is to say - the higher the value the top speed
will increase because of lower drag.
Of the trio only the mig 19 was a true supersonic
fighter that could fly supersonic in level flight- mach 1.3 or
1400 kph.

Very nice builds Yair. The MiG's are definitely my favorite aircraft, especially the MiG-15.

Beautiful work,
Gary

Hi Gary - thanks for your reply. The mig 15 and 17 are very popular among
private owners. Some are making air shows in the US with them.
The mig 19 is a bit of a problem here because of the infrastructure that is
needed and engines that need frequent replacements.

mig 19 vs mirage III c - six day war

Dear All,

I decided to open with the mig - 19.
The mig- 19 was supplied to Egypt in 1959.
Shortly after the arrival a first dogfight with
Vautours of the IAF took place without results.
Super mysters were scrambled but by then the
Migs were back in Sinai and the history missed
a fight between the two types that were very similar.
Only in 1966 an Israeli mirage downed two mig 19's.
The first was downed with the matra 530 air to air
missile which was the one and only kill of the matra 530.
The second mig was downed by the mirage 30 mm guns.
In June 5th the first day of the six day war a formation of
4 mirages with Ran Peker as a leader attacked Gardena
air base which was close to the red sea.
In that mission 4 mig 19 were downed.
This mission is well documented in youtube.
In the next days of the war sporadic encounters of
the two types raised the number of mig 19 there were
shut down to 16 .
No mirage was damaged from mig- 19 in the six day war.
After the six day war the mig 19 almost disappered from the war theater.
The conclusion is simple - at least with the IAF the mig 19
combat reaults were poor.
It is to say that the Pakistani pilots praised the mig 19 for his
combat results against Indian fighters but that's a different
story.

Hi Paperengineer - the silver mirage is from IAF betaon or magazine and was released in 1965.
The silver color was the standard mirage color at the six day war. Later they were painted in the
new camuflage scheme circa 1969 .
