IAFM F-5 E. Saudi Arabian airforce
Dear All ,
I attach here some images of the IAFM F-5E Tiger. The IAFM model was rather basic so I added. a cockpit, arrester hook and some antennas to give it more realistic look. In later posts I will give an historical brief on this important fighter that served with many arab countries but never served wit:h the IAF. Also , it was never fought against the IAF despite being used widespread by Arab counties. Yair |

A surprise
I still have that kit. It is really very rough. I will never build it.
You did a good job. The surprise is that it is in 1/48 scale instead of the more typical 1/50 scale used. Isaac

Thanks Isaac. To me it is not a surprise that it's 1:48 scale.
This model was issued in the mid 70"s so rhe design was not based on Wilhelmshavener anymore. The designer was an Israeli that his name was Amos Dror if I remember corectly. He also had a nice mirage f-1 which had nice proportions but very bad scheme. Do you know about F-1 beside the bad proportions one from mali that I build. Yair |

F-5E the origins
The F5E was evolved from the F5A series.Northrop aviation company decided to build a
lightweight fighter in two versions. One which was a two seater trainer and 1 seater fighter. The mew plane started test flights in 1959. The two seater was an immediate success and wone a big contract as a trainer for the USAF and was known as the T 38 Talon. However the one seater that was known as the p-156 freedom fighter had to wait 5 years until it was accepted to be a fighter that will be supply to friendly countries that are in a state of devlopment - 3rd world countries for instance. For these countries the idea of a simple plane which is easy to maintain and is cheap to run was the most important factor. Despite all this the F5A could go supersonic up to mach 1.4 and had a nice climb rate of 25000 feet per min ,all this with good maneuverability. The fighter was prepared for Vietnam and a squadron named skooshy tiger was formed and fought over suoth Vietnam with great success. Shortly after many 3rd world countries started to get the type and to operate it. Attaced here some photos of the IAFM and Mali models. Yair |
