1/72 Seversky BT-8

I built this model 8 or 9 months ago, and it's still my favorite. It's designed by Roman Vasyliev (der Kampfflieger), so the fit and finish are first rate. The model is not currently being offered on Roman's site. I hope it will be soon, because it really is a joy to build. Assembly was pretty much trouble free. It has huge wing fillets which run all the back along the fuselage sides to where the elevators begin. Forming them without all those little slits you see so often was probably the most challenging part of the build. I'm not sure of the color though. I think the blue is way too light. Maybe one of our resident aviation historians will weigh in. Extra details include the towering mast antenna, the hoop antenna just behind the cowl, a starboard side exhaust pipe, and a pitot tube. The base is all paper, designed in MSPaint, with a little Woodland Scenics ground foam for texture. I hope you enjoy the pics.

What a great built, the base really helps as well. The USAF should paint all their aircraft in this colour scheme, much more pretty than boring old grey!

I think it's a DF loop underneath.

The blue is a little light, but well within the limits of fading and scale effects.
The fuselage should be ANA 501 True Blue (186493Hex) (24 100 147 RGB)

I love the base as much as the model. I need to start putting my planes on bases.

Great job on your BT 8 there Don.

Roman does do some rather nice kits. I have scored more than a few for the stash and look forward to slicing and dicing my way through them.

Thanks for positive feedback guys. That's the blue I'm talkin' 'bout Shrike. the model looks OK faded, but I wish it were "true blue". You're right Dragos. It was offered for free someone out there in cyberspace, but I could never find the link again. I like bases for 1/72 or smaller aircraft CT. Not only are the bases compact, but usually the model doesn't have the level of detail that would require picking it up for a closer look at the underside, etc. Another benefit is that when the model is picked up, it's picked up by base instead of the model itself, so the risk of damage is minimized.

This is a great little model. I like aircraft of that period and hope that Roman will make it available again.
