I've just come across a picture of what I think may be the plane that this particular model is based upon Focke-Wulf Fw 190A

Sure looks like it. Right down to a "11". The spinner is a bit more pointy though on the model then on the plane.

I never realized how much more of a clear view the pilot of the FW-190 had compared to the pilots of the M-109.

Looks like the FW-190 has a wider wheel base when landing then the ME-109. I bet thy had better luck on landings in these?

Absolutely - the landing accident rate in Fw190 units was trivial compared to the Me109 units. The only real problem with the Fw190 ground handling was the lack of view over the engine - Fw190s usually had to have one of the ground crew hanging onto the wing to direct the pilot when taxiing.

Regards,

Charlie

FG model is $4.95...I will have to wait. I have some models I want at Ecardmodels first, but I will get this. I kind of like the ME-109, but have not ever studied on the FW-190. I am growing to like it too. See...one attractive model and bamb, I get hooked!

That's true of most taildragger fighters. S-turns are required to see anything, but the FW is particularly bad because the pilots seating position is much more reclined than most. More like a modern sailplane (which I can attest to) or an F-16 (which I have to take on faith). I've only had occasion to sit in a D model with the long nose and my view was mostly of hangar ceiling<g>
