I did a bit more looking, and I think, don't quote me, but it looks as though they have only restored it enough to prevent further decay. All of the pictures I have seen that have been taken recently make Swamp Ghost look pretty untouched.
I hope they keep it "found" condition. That would be spectacular. The Pacific Aviation Museum is on my "Must See" list for Hawaii. They have 50 aircraft there, along with a Zero in a bullet riddles hangar that still has holes in it from the Pearl Harbor invasion. |

I fired a tweet across the bow of the Pac Aviation Museum. They responded and confirmed that they are preserving the B-17 "As-is". No work other than to stem the decay as it sits. It is now a historical artifact.

Plenty of folks in the warbird community were already aware of that discussion, but "as-is" outdoors is NOT necessarily going to be more stable there than it was in the jungle.

According to their website, she is supposed to be displayed inside Hanger 79 once the restoration/conservation is complete. I hope it plays out this way.
Scroll down toward the bottom of the link below for the reference to future plans. Boeing B-17E Flying Fortress Swamp Ghost This link has more photos, one of which does show her inside. Let's hope this is the most recent picture of the bunch. Boeing B-17E Flying Fortress | Pearl Harbor Museum

It would be kinda cool if they recreated the conditions she was found in, kind of like a life sized diorama. I know a few museums have done that.

Aaron would be out of the question to create a desk top diorama paper model like the two above? I guess the next part would be to creating it so others can also build and enjoy. Which would be over my head like a few models I'm working on or are they working on me? wc

I've got both models (the Betty is an Oddball) It would just take the somebody with talents that far exceed mine to make it.

However they display it, I hope the one unique physical attribute of the airframe remains visible. This is the only surviving B-17E with the Bendix remote control ventral turret.
