Marek FW-190F-8 1:33 Build

This is one of the first models I bought, but looking at the engine parts it placed a dampner on my desire to build it. But after my Marek Bf109 build I decided to give it a try. I searched the Marek Marathon section in vain to try and find a build of this model just to realize that it is a newer model and most probably not around at the time.

The details of assembling the engine is very self explanatory, so I managed to get a decent result the first time. With 56 2.5mm disks and 28 5.5mm disks, I wish I had a japanese hole punch as it would have saved me hours. I only have access to a laser printer so when rolling all the tubes the ink tends to flake, even after I used a fixative. In the end I covered the whole engine with a thin layer CA to hide the flaking which also gave it a slight metallic look. There are lots and lots of little faults, but overall the result is not so bad that I would want to rebuild it. It is going under a cowl in any case.

Now I can get on with building the plane!

Looks like you're off to a good start. Looking forward to your updates on this model.

So far so good!

It seems Marek enhanced his own designs.

Still, even with the problems you've encountered it has turned well thus far.Sort of reminds me of the Airfix 1/24th scale FW-190. The engine there is almost a kit by it's self. Looking forward to the rest of the build..

Cockpit taking shape

I have made some nice progress on the cockpit area. Unlike the previous Marek model, the cockpit diagram of this model is not as clear as it could be, but if you study it well, it all makes sense. I have found a small part that is not indicated anywhere on the diagrams, but figured out where it could possibly go. I was impressed with the fit of the rear outer skin. It fit like a glove without having to do any adjustments.

Charles,

Both the cockpit and the engine look great. You seem to have the detailed parts licked!

Trouble

Well, everything could not go as smooth as the first bit of the build. I hit a major snag today. The engine does not fit! First I thought it might be my build, but looking at the construction diagrams there is definitely a problem. There is a former ring that has to fit around the engine at the front of the cowl section, but the ring is either too small or the engine too long. In the first photo, the top red arrow shows the ring fitting around the engine, but photo 2 shows the ring on top of the engine template, clearly indicating that the there is no way the engine fits inside the ring. Photo 3 shows my engine standing proud of the cowl even more than the diagram, mostly due to bad building, but indicating the problem. The only solution I have is to remove the flange at the back of the engine to move the cylinders back far enough to fit the former ring in front of the engine. I will also then have to place some spacers between the prop and the front of the engine.

I have ofter wondered how many models are designed on computers but never beta build. Could this be a 1:50 model that has been scaled up to 1:33 and an engine added?
