Time for a little check in, after major surgery and lots of great pointers from you guys this is what I came up with; instead of clay for weight I used fishing lead and for the main gear I used wire. Just wanted to thank everyone for all the great help.

I think it turned out quite nice. Now download some of Gary Pilsworth’s Piper airplanes from this site to give her some company.

Hey guys I have a question. The Cardinal is one of my favorite airplanes and Murph has really done a beautiful job of it but both of the fixed gear versions are foreign registered because of their "tail numbers" . I would like to make a US registered fixed gear, I have tried unsuccessfully at photoshop and most tail numbers are of a specific size , font and slant ( per the FARS) and I would like to be able to reproduce that on such a beautiful model. Btw US registered aircraft start with N and are followed by a sequence of numbers or letters ( this is also called an N number). The RG that Murph makes has an N number ( US registered ). I would appreciate any help.

There's a LOT of variation on N-numbers, actually (I've flown a ton of civilian planes and there are plenty of different fonts used - and Murph's RG version is a plane I have keys to at the moment). Your best bet is to take your build of Murph's plane as painted, make a note of where the alignment is, then take that information as a reference for where things should go on the model for a repaint. It will probably take some interpolation and may take a few cut and try dry-fits to get it right.
