mystere IIC Ecardmodels - build diary.
In the History of the IAF there is a very important chapter called the "french era". There was a good reason for that as the French were the only country that was willing to supply new jets
to Israel. At the 50's US and Britain were both reluctant to sell modern jets to Israel. Britain sold small number of meteors in 1953 but by then the meteor was considered an old design. In 1955 the first French jet fighter entered service with the IAF - Dassault Ouragan. The plane was very straitforward design and rivaled the straight wing f-84 Thunderjet series. But even before it there was a need for a first line fighter. In 1954 an israeli test pilot flew the Saab 29 Tunan and gave a positive report on the plane but Sweden refused to sell it. The French were more than willing to sell the mystere IIC to Israel and a delegation came to test it. After some 20 test flights the pilots gave negative opinion on the mystere IIC. The main complains were about it's flight characteristics which were found lacking in many areas. At the time the mystere IV was in advanced devolopment stages and was a much more promising design with much better performance. A big argue started in Israel between the airforce and procurement department . The officer's in the procurement department point was simple - if the mystere IIC is good for the French airforce it should be good as well for the IAF. At the end it was decided to wait for the much better mystere IV - history proved that it was the right decision. As I am very fond of french jet fighters I started a build diary of the mystere IIC from Ecardmodels in an adapted 1:48 scale instead of the original 1:33 scale. Yair |

mystere IIC - build diary continued
The body if the mystere IIC is cicrular and discs are circles.
The model comes with detailed cockpit and wheels compartments. Also, the wings and horizontal tail surfaces had moving flaps. The span is bigger than the fuselage length. The fuselage parts were assembled and need to be connected. Front wheel compartment and cockpit need to be placed inside the body parts. Will continue. Yair |

This is an interesting prototype aircraft. An improved Ouragan with swept wings. I have a suggestion that will improve the model looks. Please consider making a vacuformed canopy. It makes a huge improvement over simple spliced sheet. You can even warm up a piece of clear plastic and fit it over a plug in the shape of the canopy. For the hebrew version look here: Yarons steps:שיטות לייצור חופות שקופות פרש - יצירת חופות שקופות בשיטת Vacuum Former Yoav's method פרש - חופות בשיטת וואקום פורם - מדריך נוסף video as well. Full of good information. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aH9b1mWFFYg Thanks Isaac

Thanks Don and Isaac .
Isaac - the mystere IIC actullhy served with the French airforce as some 150 were built till 1963. You are right as the design was based on the Ouragan with a slightly longer body and swept wings. Also the wings are with 0 angle and are not having a positive up diherdall angle as with the Ouragan. The mystere IV was a much better design as it could produce a sonic bang in a shallow dive without the control issues of mystere IIC and more than 420 were produced including 60 to the IAF and 110 for India. Thanks for the links I will give it a try. Yair |

Some more progress with the body parts. I found a new glue called Gutermann creativ HT12 which works very nice and strong and is not staining as the UHU- so I attach here a picture
of it. Yair |
