Aaron's OBP F-105D Thunderchief repaint

Hi,

I just completed a repaint of Aaron Murphy's F-105D Thunderchief. I added some extras from the TSMC F-105. It is painted as Cherry Girl from the 357th TFS during the Vietnam War.

Nice looking model. But please tel us a bit more about it. What scale is it? Anything interesting about the repaint? Compare it to the standard kit......

Nice work

Very nice! I too repainted this kit to an aircraft of the 357th (tail and left intake only). It did it for my friend who's dad was a mechanic with the group in Thailand.

Thanks,

The scale is 1/45 to match the other "Mig Killer" repaints I did of Aaron's designs. The camouflage pattern is the standard SEA scheme for the F-105. Aaron's designs always go together great. I used the TSMC F-105 tail, arrestor hook flaring, intake shields, bombs and scoops.
Sorry the pictures are a bit blurry, but it is probably better you don't see the nose art too clearly......good thing my wife and daughter don't look too closely at my models.

Willygoat, I used your pictures for reference when I was doing my repaint.

And here are the 3 Mig Killers together.

I was just looking through some of the old OBP models, and realized how much I've improved over the years. The Northrop F-5 I did looks so bad now, I winced when I looked at it. So, I'm gonna do a redesign using everything I've learned. Plus I can do a few versions (and tweak it into the F-20 Tigershark)

Beautiful repaint Brent. I love your collection of "MiG Killers". I'm hoping that your F-105 will be available on Aaron's site.

The standard OBP F-105 kit does not have a historically correct camouflage scheme. I had the correct scheme pattern in one of my books and used that. My original test build had a more muted colour. I wanted the scheme to "pop" so I found a plastic modeling article on the SEA scheme and samples from different paint companies and sampled the company that had a bit more vibrant colours.

Thanks Gary, Yoav and Mike.

Aaron has stated elsewhere on this form that he no longer owns the rights to the OBP model line and cannot offer repaints he has not completed himself. If he was allowed to sell this repaint and get 100% of the proceeds I would gladly send him the repaint to help him to continue designing his great models.

I am almost finished building repaints of some of his other models including the F-104c, F-86D and A=26C. I hope to show you these in the near future.

Brent
