Thanks for the comments, friends
The cockpit side panels are very shallow. Comparing with others, it looks like the pilot head was well above the canopy base. Regarding the detail level, it is a typical Halinski… |

Thanks, Don Halinski's cockpits are often a joy to assemble. Unlike the Spitfire or the Buffalo, this one has a solid base plate, which is most helpful!
Assembling the cockpit side panels was a piece of cake. The canopy rails were a bit trickier, as they involve butt gluing of long and slim parts. |

That's a great result up so far Ricardo! You make it seem such an easy job. You're not using laser cut frames I understand from the pictures? Halinski kits have a lot of formers so the cutting work will leave you with some sour fingers....

@ Erik – thanks Yes, I’m not using the laser cut frames. I only buy those extras when the frames are “impossible” to cut. A good example is in many WW1 wing structure parts. When the part depth becomes as small as the card thickness, well, forget it. The fingers don’t appreciate my choice. They protest mainly when cutting the tiny rectangular holes on the formers. Quite an annoying task. I get the feeling that publishers tend to overdo some things in the hope that customers decide to buy the laser cut frames…
The instrument panel is simple. On some Halinskis, there is a sandwich with a plastic sheet in the middle, in order to look like glass. Not on this case. The gunsight is small and fragile. I’ll put it off until much later in the assembly. |
