The original Fuga was published by Wilhelmshavener back in the early 60's. This model was silver
with the German Luftwaffe scheme. The magazine of the Israeli airforce had an agreement with
Wilhelmshavener to print their models with different airforces schemes - so the Fuga recieved the
Israeli airforce scheme ( front and rear red and mid - section blue and brown ) in one of the IAF magazines around 1965.

Vautour sncso 4050 vs IL- 28 Beagle - the slippery IL-28

From the late 50's IL-28's of Egypt and Syria were making photo missions over Israel. The all weather Vautour N was very close to a Beagle kill but was given an order to stop the chase
before his 4x30 mm ( gunpack ) guns could open fire in a couple of occasiones !

Some pics of the two. The IL-28 is IAFM model with the Egyptian scheme with transparente cockpits for the 3 crew members ( pilot , bombardier and rear tail gunner ).

Super mystre B2 - supersonic in level flight

In 1957 Egypt and Syria started to recieve the mig 17 S Fresco. The type was equiped with
afterburner which the Mystere IVa didnt have. This afterburner gave the mig 17 a better climb
and speed but he was still a subsonic fighter. Then came news tbat the the double engined
Mig 19S Supersonic fighter will be supplied to Egypt in 1959. Israel needed an answer and found the Marcel Dassault Super Mystere which started to get into service in the French
airforce in 1957 suitable . As with earlier types Israeli crews of pilots and technicians were sent to France to learn it. The Super Mystere was capale of speed of mach 1.2 at 10000 feet
and had climb rate of 17000 feet per minute - 2 times faster then the mystere IV. Only 24 were
ordered and Israel started to get them in late 1958. In 1963 another 12 were recieved from the surplus of the French airforce.
The SAMBAD -( super mystere b douxe ) was liked by it's Israeli pilots and was the first line
interceptor till the arrival of the Mirage IIIC fighters in 1963.

I put here some pics of the SAMBAD in the silver scheme of the first yeaes. This model was released in 1961 in the IAF magazine . a clear canopy and full cockpit were added instead the
regular blocked canopy.

mirage IIIC - mach 2.0 !

The mirage IIIc and the Israeli airforce are love story. No other fighter earn such a love from his pilots as the mirage IIIc in the IAF. As Israeli pilots used to say , it took some time but after a while when they learn to exploite it the max. It was a dream to fly. Mo other plane in the IAF had so many kills as the Mirage. The mirage huge success in the six day war paved the way for Dassault to sell it over the world.

The model here is the original IAFM model from 1965 with clear cockpit and squadron 101
sign on the tail.

Sa'ar IAI - J52 instead of 101G

The Sa'ar is actually a modified Super Mystere B2.
Due to the French embargo of spare parts in 1968 problems started with oil systems of the Atar 101G. Someone in the IAF suggested to replace the Atar with the J52 of the Skyhawk.
The rear section was elongated with pipe looking shape that extended rearwards a bit.
The military thrust raised to 4200 kg instead 3450 kg but the J52 was lighter and had a lower
speciefic fuel consumption - so the range was much longer.
The low level performance were about the same and only the Supersonic capability at hight
was lacking without the previous Atar afterburner.
The Sa'ar could carry more bombs and proved an excellent attack fighter in 1973 during the
Yom Kippur war. Among the Israeli attack fighters such as the Phantoms, Skyhawks , Mirages
the Sa'ar had the lowest attrition rate and only 6 were lost.
In 1976 the remains were sold to Honduras were they served with great success till
the mid 90's.

This Sa'ar model here was repainted by YOAV HOZMI and is in the Yom Kippur war scheme.
The black and yellow stripes were added to distingwishe it from Arab Hawker Hunters that had simillar shape from the side profile.

Mystere IVa MD 454 vs Mystere IIc MD 452 - Brothers ?

At a first look it is very easy to see the big simillarity of the two as far as the main shape is concerned. But in reality the mystere IIc was developed from the Ouragan and the mystere IV
was a totaly new design or a new plane.
The fuselage was longer by 115 cm while the span shortned by 150 cm. The swept angle was 38 degrees instead of 30. The cockpit had the rear part connected to the tail with upper fairing. The engine was the Verdun centrifugal series with 3500 kg thrust instead the Atar 101
with 3000 kg. The low level speed was 1120 kph instead 1060 kph. Two 30 mm guns replaced
the four 20 mm . The controls were servo powered and this feature enabled the pilot better
control during flying at high speeds. Breaking the sound barrier was easy with a 4 degrees
shallow dive instesd of almost vertical dive. But still the Mystere IIc had the French elegant
design and streamlined body shape and is not looking bad at all near his younger brother.

Mystere IVa vs Mig -15 bis vs Mig -17 - Kadesh operation 1956

The Mystere IV was called the " Kadesh fighter ". In the 1956
operation the Mystere IV had 3 mig -15 and 1 mig -17 kills.
This achivement is even bigger if we consider that only few and sporadic engagements
happened during a couple of days period only. Beside the Egyptian migs 4 Egyptian Vampires were
downed by IAF mysteres during Kadesh operation.

Some pics of the Mystere IV and Mig- 15 and Mig- 17.

Mirage IIIc vs Mig-19s - six day war 1967

In 1967 the Israeli air force had the first real meet with the mig-19 . Although in 1966 one Mirage downed two mig -19 , one with Matra 530 air to air missile and the second with 30 mm guns only in 1967 six day war a series of dogfights between the two types took place.
The IAF pilots found the Mig-19 an easy fighter to defeat and shut down no less than 16 during the war. In comparison only 12 mig-17 were downed despite greater number that was
used by Egypt and Syria.
All this in a contrast to the Pakistani pilots who claimed to have air victories with the F-6 Chinese variant of the Russian mig -19 in Info-Pakistani war of 1971.

Some pics of the two in 1:48 scale.
