Suchoi-7BKL Polish AF. Hobby Model 1/33 scale

As I just finished my Suchoi-7BMK Egyptian air force, I decided to continue that streak of building another Suchoi


Here is the build thread for the Egyptian version:

The kit is a new one from Hobby Model and is kit # 0111 dated January 2015.


This variant is a great improvement and has numerous details that are similar to their Suchoi-9 kit I built a few years back:

From the print I have, I can see a high quality kit that can be quite involved, or simplified if you wish not to add all the extras. Since the Model Kom version was simple, I will try to build this one with all or most of the details.

As usual, I have reference books and always refer to Yefim Gordon's books


Another plus for me is that I have seen the actual Polish version at the Cracow aviation museum in Poland back in 2009.

Hello Isaac – I see that HobbyModel is investing a bit more in the instructions! What about the silver paint? Is it similar to the Su-9. I found it very sensitive to white glue…

There are many pictures and sketches to assist in building. I never read the instructions as they are mostly useless. I need visual instructions.

The printed booklet is very good. I'll let you know as I start building. I did have to be careful with edge coloring as that tends to bleed.

Yes, I started building and indeed the silver got very sensitive to the glue and discolored in some locations.

I decided to start with the inlet assembly.

That included the green colored inlet bullet nose and the splitter assembly. The spliter is not present in the Model Kom kit.





The parts fit nicely.


The nose bullet is removable and I will fill it with weights later on to prevent a tail sitter model.

The external skins of the nose section are simple conical that fit together




There is also an inner lining that is simple silver colored thin paper. I found it very hard to glue when the sections are already put together ( you can't glue while flat since the joining strip will show ).

The aircraft has a unique feature in that there are 4 doors forward of the cockpit that are spring activated and open up during take off condition to allow for extra air to the engines.

The parts are cut and replaced in a slightly open position.
