Gradients are the way to go. Aluminum finish is the age old question with paper models. I think that there are more than a few threads on it.

Herky, there is also a KLM Visclount 802 available at Scaldis. It is a reprint of an old Veritas model of the 1950's, but it is reasonable accurate.

The tail is almost ready but I need help with one last part on the tail cone of the Vickers Viscount. In the photo of Capital N7471, the APU exhaust opening can be seen as the round opening just under the registration number. There is also a rectangle opening just front of and below the APU opening. What is that? That same rectangle shaped opening can be seen behind and below the starboard side cargo door in the photo of Aloha N7416. I would like to model that but I don't know what it is. Unfortunately, there is no museum nearby with a Vickers Viscount that I can visit and see for myself. Thanks, Henry

I didn’t expect to have so many problems with painting the cheatline on the tail assembly. Eventually those problems were resolved. Then I noticed in some photos of the Vickers Viscount there was an outlet behind and below the aft cargo door on the starboard side only. I don’t know the name or purpose of this opening. I don’t think it is the APU exhaust because that is round and aft of this rectangular opening. It was not found on all aircraft even from the same airline. For example, Aloha N7415 does not have this opening but Aloha N7416 does. Since I was modeling N7416, that meant printing new parts and starting all over again. This would be the optional opening in part 34 and the backing, part 59.

Just when I thought I captured all of the details visible if I was standing 50 meters away, I noticed in some photos, there was something dark on the bottom surface of the fuselage, behind the NACA duct. Back to the drawing board. After examining a lot of photos, I think this part can be glued on and I did not have to completely rebuild the fuselage again. Thanks to a friend, I think this last part is related to the “intercool air outlet”. I searched every photo I could find that people took of a Vickers Viscount in museums around the world and posted to Flickr and still cannot determine if I designed this correctly. In the end I designed it as backwards facing air scoop. This will be part 61 which will be glued on at later along with door handles and hinges.
