Polikarpov I-16 Halinski 1:33 heads up?

I just started this model this past weekend -- my first crack at a Halinski kit. I chose it mostly because it is 'only' three pages of parts, and I have the laser-cut former set. I have the cockpit barely underway, and before I get too much farther along, I would like to know if anyone knows of any potential trouble spots with this model? Thanks!

Hi ccoyle

No problems with Polikarpov from Halinski. Go ahead!

Good cuts, good folding and good bonding.

Coolness! I can't wait to see some pictures!

Honestly, I have no idea, but I'm pretty sure a quick check at some other paper forums will point you in the right direction?

....I believe another Halinski callout should be in order?

Great to hear that you are doing this one. Attached a little something for inspiration during the build.

I found a note I once made. Don't know if it is of any relevance or use, or whether it is a recipy for how it should be, or not:

Quote:
Exhaust stubs:
Left side (top to bottom)
2 - 1 - 2
Right side (top to bottom)
2 - 1 - 1
Plans show different layout
The originals of the promotion photos at the Halinski site can be found at the Konradus site.

I have a lot of links to drawings, photos, etc., if you feel like it, from Russian MK Magazine, and the Wunderwaffe site.

Thanks, Leif. You are a wellspring of info, as usual. I don't plan on doing too much tinkering with this model -- just want to see how the basic Halinski package goes together compared to other designs. To everyone else: pictures would be nice, and I would gladly post them, if I didn't currently own two non-working cameras and zero working ones. I'm not sure when this situation will be rectified, but when it is, I have several build threads that need updating. Sorry!

Chris, it isn't a pitfall but I saw alot of superdetailers steal the engine and graft them onto the Fly B-17 kit. So that must be some little gem! Good luck!

The engine does, indeed, have a fearsome number of parts, and I have seen a couple of build logs on the Polish forums in which the builders have added spark plug wires and other insane details -- beautiful, but beyond my abilities at this point. The finished engine will also be largely hidden on the finished model.

Oh, it is beautiful as a kit. I am sorry that I have not been building aircraft for a while.

You can always count on Halinski being as good as you can be and delivering a wonderful result at the end. It (to me) is a comfort to have a kit where, if something is a little off, I know it is me and I must adjust to make it correct.

Please do share photos of your build if you can

Carl

Hi Chris,

Don't let the number of parts of this kit mislead you. In fact, it's a very demanding kit, especially skinning the cockpit section. Based on my friend's experiences, it's better to depart from the instruction in this area, and glue first the skins behind the headrest and then proceed to the fore section.

You have been warned
