DC-3/C-47 "Sister Ann" by TMSC (1:100)

I just started building this nice kit by TSMC.

A few moons ago it was a free download from: ??????????

I am warming my hands again after a long time without some serious modelling.

The kit itself is just two letter-sized pages of parts.
(Which I print together in a single A3 page)



The instructions come in the third page. But they're in Japanese.
I used an online translator to translate them. But it turns out
the construction is rather simple. Just follow the numbered order of the parts.


The green areas indicate where to glue. I cut out most of these
and used instead connecting strips. Be careful if you do the same,
as some of these areas will be needed as structural support.



Even at 1:100 scale, this kit has three formers inside the fuselage.



To help me placing them correctly I added a holding tab
on each side of the former. That way I can use a tweezer to hold it
and place it where it belongs.




The fit is very precise. And use of thick paper could be a problem.
The nose shows it (maybe too many connecting strips inside).




I made a couple mistakes cutting, and the macro photo really shows them as huge,
but they're not so evident in a casual view.




Fuselage complete. Will continue the rest soon!




The kit is really well designed.

Every panel and rivet line is true to that of a real DC-3.
That's a very nice detail.

So far the geometry of the fuselage and the cockpit are really good
and resemble with great accuracy the real thing.


At 1:100 there are some details that get lost, but that's to be expected.
Despite that, the kit looks very promising and delightful to build.

This is one of the models I tried to get my hands on.. I tried the way back machine but this particular model was not found. .. How can I get my hands on this .. Who do I need to contact .. Any help would be obliged ... By the way nice build cannot wait till u r finished

You used to be able to email them and tell them which models you wanted and they would email them back to you............

Just one part, 4 big petals.

Part #7 is an internal box to hold together the lower part of the fuselage and (I guess)
to properly align the wing. As well as to help shape the bottom of the fuselage behind the cabin.

As there are no clear references in the simple instruction sheet,
this is my best guess. Fortunately it seemed to work fine.






I keep loving the incredible amount of accurate detail in the paneling and the rivets lines.

At 1:100 and with less parts, it is still much better than in a couple of paid kits I've seen.





So far 14 parts assembled.



I still believe the paper I chose was a bit too thick.
That's why I'm already thinking on building this kit a bit bigger.
Surely it will work great at 1:72




The fin and horizontal stabilizer are really easy to make.
And they fit charmingly. No formers needed, no extra cuts required.
It all falls into place perfectly.




The alignment is quite good. I believe you have to be very careful pre-shaping the fuselage parts,
because that will influence how level the stabilizer will be. In my case there seems to be a little tilt.





I will keep building this kit next week.
