Almost ready the engine, I had to admit that is a very hard work with lot of small parts, but the result is confortable, and just to try I put the propellers.

Paul,
Wonderful job! The "round thing" at the back of the engine must be the supercharger. This is a kind of air compressor, driven by the engine itself. The Spitfire was able to operate at very high ceilings and at these altitudes the air has a very low density. This results in lesser oxygen available for the combustion process, which has an adverse effect on the engine efficiency. The supercharger compressed the air such as to make the air "thicker" and to have more oxygen in the fuel-air mixture filling the cylinders. These engines were technical marvels!! I would vote your beauty for next POTW . Erik |

Well the engine is finish! I had big assembly problems with the final cage, the parts doesnt match so well at this scale or they are very dificult to glue them together, I will fix the alignment in the front of the cage with the propeller cone. I put the exhaust of the Spitfire to make it more real.
The captain is happy to see the engine ready for first start!! :P @ Erik - You are totally rigth about the supercharger, I supouse that when I saw the centrifugal compressor in the image, but very very thanks for the engineering class, so helpfull. @ Yoav - really thanks, Its time for the Spitfire now! regards |

Well done Paul. I'm very curious to what's next, how the engine will fit into the rest of the Spitfire. Is it a Halinski, Orlik?

Cool project! I have found the width of the inside cockpit to to a bit too wide for the outside skins on the Halinsky model, just a caution so you can decide what you want to do. I shortened the lower inside ribs as can't see them when is covered and could without altering too much else still make the inside cockpit narrower. Also removed a bit from the inside skins on the bottom where they join to allow the cockpit to be narrowed...just a comment...if you find this problem

Great work on the engine. I'm sure the rest of the model will be equally perfect
