Sorry I guess the link doesn't work-- probably a cookie on my computer that allows it to work when I click on it.
Let's try this one... Ye Olde Rocket Forum - STUDY SUMMARY- "Feasibility of A-12 (SR-71) for Air Launched Reconnaissance System" It's a summary of a study that proposed using the A-12 (SR-71) as a carrier to launch a Polaris missile outfitted as a "once around" orbital satellite launcher for quick-response intelligence missions. The pics show the Polaris mounted under the A-12 with a special tailcone designed for aerodynamics that would also deploy "petals" for drag stability at separation prior to the missile rocket motor ignition, and also a proposal for carrying the Polaris on the back of the A-12 like the drone they tried. The problem was, how to launch the thing off the back of the A-12 successfully without destroying the aircraft (like they did with the drone). Later! OL J R

That worked a little better. Much better then their idea, wouldn't even want to be flying close to that when it launched.

Two more for Blackbird study...
Two more add to my Cold War 1/100 collection at this time is more two Blackbird, a fighter version (YF-12 Blackhawk) and two-seater A-12 (YF-12C), in fact A-12 is a fake fighter version, because CIA shared A-12 with NASA for supersonic research. Models from Murph's Models. YF-12C |
