Northrop YF-17A 1/100, scissirsandplanes
I started to build this nice unsuccessful prototype model made by Bruno and I took decision to show my progress here - maybe it will help anyone else with his build.
In fact without part numbering and instruction sketch it is not quite easy to understand all the parts, but I like challenges so this I take as one of them Front fuselage is simple, standard: As I did not know, how to continue to the rear end, so I started another assembly from the last part: and have continued with two more parts By wondering how fit these two assemblies together, I added one more part to front assembly... So thatīs it for tonight, will be continued... |

Thanks for comments.
I have continued with gluing front and rear halves together, but first I added parts into air intakes - there helped me a photo Bruno put in his thread. I realized, that some minor changes have to be done - the glue tabs have to be bent in their middle and a piece of paper has to be inserted to not to have a hole in the fuselage bottom. Main wings I reworked a bit too: There is a bit of color missing on fuselage top, so I cut pieces of color and glued it there So for tonight it looks this way: |

You're making good progress and your notes and markings on the pics are helpful. Thank you.

Thanks for the detailed info on the build and the modifications/corrections.
What weight/thickness paper are you using, Robert? Don |

I have printed it twice - on 120 g/m2 and on standard office paper 80 g/m2.
But till now I have used just the 120g paper. Maybe for landing gear I will use 80g print. |

That's what I use for most builds, but I generally work in 1/48. For my one 1/100 Bruno build (Mitsubishi Ki-1) I used the 120gsm/80gsm combination you are using.

I never noticed the similarity between the YF-17 and the T-38/F-5 before. . .

Some more parts glued in, without major issues.
Since according Bruno this model would be a tail-sitter, I cut a hole for some weight, but I will add it just after landing gears will be finished. The canopy will cover the hole - here just not glued yet. Model looks quite nice I think. |
