Excellent rivets Dan. You're making great progress especially considering all the 'extra' things you're doing (like the rivets).

Thanks, Elliot. I'm having fun and sort of blurring my typical plastics with paper. Seems to look ok so I'll press on (and I'm learning a lot!).
I started filling and priming the cowling and got the major fuselage panels together (test fit) with a bit of playing around. The panel lines between the wood and the metal look pretty good and maybe will be almost perfect with a few swipes of sandpaper. For now...here are some shots. First, you can see the cowling with rough putty applied. Then, after some sanding...though it still has some pock marks! The engine looks nice sticking out of there too! Finally, I put the cockpit parts together which go together very well and look great. However, based on my references, it looks more like a jet cockpit than this little beasite so I'll be scratching the pit starting tomorrow. Moving right along. Can't wait to get the pit done and put on the tails! Cheers and have a great weekend, Dan |

It looks good
Honestly, I am impressed that you've decided to build your model in this way. I think that painting paper planes isn't a good idea. But your model looks nice so far. Waiting for the painting stage |

Thanks, Guys...
Well, this is an experiment so I'm seeing how much you can push the medium. I think one disadvantage of paper card models is that you don't paint them. Every J-22 will look exactly the same. This is also a great advantage depending on your outlook! For example, it really tests your ability to assemble and rise to challenges of the paper rather than covering up mistakes with paint and putty! I would think all the models would then be on a level playing field at a contest and be judged based on their "paper" quality which is the purest form. I enjoy painting as much as assembling, though, so I am looking forward to getting some color on this little guy. I do hope it all turns out in the end . More soon... Cheers, Dan |

Thanks, Don...now onto a bit more!
Here is a shot of the fuselage mocked up. Looks pretty cool. I started the cockpit by making the seat first. Here you can see a shot of the actual seat from a real J-22 example. Then, you see the kit seat and my new seat made out of paper with some pulled plastic sprue tubular steal. Finally, the new seat placed. I like the extra armor plating on top and the little rivet details on the seat as well. I hope to work on the side cockpit areas and the main panel tonight. More later, Dan |

All,
I started detailing the interior a bit. I'll try and post again tonight if I can get the seat and instrument panel in! We'll see. The pictures are the new scratch panel made of paper with holes cut via a punch set. I punched out some instruments I had laying around and sandwiched some clear plastic to make "glass". Finally, I got it detailed and painted up the seat as well. It was nice to use the kit belts since I normally use paper belts in my other models anyway. Kind of cool to use them in an actual card model... All in all, not bad and a nice improvement over the kit. More soon... Dan |

All,
I got a bit more done. Started the interior by putting in the seat, intruments and some paper ribbing on the side walls along with a bit of stretched sprue for tubular steal. I also got the stick made and rudder pedals...though you can't see them too well now...my shot is of the back side. Finally, I added the rear of the fuselage and the tails. I see how neat these models look with separated tail surfaces so I've elected to do that. You can see the rudder done and the elevators at an early stage of completion. More interior once I get the tails all nice and installed... Thanks for looking, Dan |
