I should have listened to you, Elliot. You guys have it great over here...
I did get some basic paint on this little guy tonight. I made the metal parts a different shade of green, which seems a bit stark now, but with some weathering and overcoats, I think things will fade together OK. First, the metal parts are painted, then masked off and then the other green added and masks removed. I assembled the whole thing so you can get a feel for the beast. Finally, a shot of the air intakes (and my hard working son in the background...homework is a real bummer). Tomorrow I'll start adding markings like any letters and numbers, then it's on to the blue fields with yellow crowns! Thanks for looking and cheers, Dan |

I got a bit more done tonight by starting on the markings. I decided to add a "D" to the fin sides and the cowling as well. This is not supposed to be a specific plane, but the markings mirror many photos I've seen. Ultimately, I'll put a "4" on the fuselage side along with the Swedish markings.
The photos show how I painted the letters on. In the first shot, I've cut out a mask for the red part using Tamyia tape. Second, after painting red, I've masked off the red with a smaller "D" inlaid on the inside. Finally, I sprayed white, removed all the masking, did a tiny bit of touch up and you have red letters with white surrounds. I'll start tackling the main markings tomorrow. That should brighten this little guy up immensely. Cheers, Dan |

That's a good job Dan. Looking forward to seeing the plane with complete markings.

Thanks, Elliot...
Though I still need to put a "4" on the fuselage (my wife's suggestion...there are four of us in the family) the hard parts are done! I got the main markings on. Now I need to put black outlines around the crowns (I think) but the basics are here at last! I must say this is more satisfying than a plastic model. AND...there ARE no plastic 1/32nd (33rd) J-22s around. Super cool indeed. Dan |

Thanks, Douglas. It's been a fun experiment!
Here are some more shots. It's getting closer. Highlights include: navigation lights, gun shrouds and antenna with insulators attached as well as a new exhaust and the crazy landing gear linkages. I still need to make brake lines and gear doors but it's close now. More soon...Dan |

Thanks, All...
DJE: Yes...airbrush. I just use Tamyia acrylics over grey primer and I thin with rubbing alcohol. Basically until the paint looks like milk consistency??? Seems to work well and the paper isn't getting drenched etc. Dries fast too. Cheers, Dan |

All,
I got back to trying to finish this little model. All I really need is to make a canopy, paint the frames, put it on and make a gun site. Then, just a tad of weathering/airbrushing and she'll be done. Here you see the canopy mold with tape frames and then the almost visible finished/cut apart product. I'll get her on the fuselage soon. It will be nice to finish this little experiment. Cheers, Dan |
