Air Dave's B24D Minerva

Here is one I haven't seen built before, the B24D Minerva. It is very well designed and everything fits nicely.

I built it a little differently than the instructions specified. Firstly I made the fuselage with joining strips, the kit has bulkheads the butt up against each other. Secondly I gussetted the crap out of the wings to make sure they didn't twist, I also put a tab on the trailing edge to make the glueing easier. Thirdly the propellers spin freely. And, lastly, I took the new wheels from the C130 and altered them to fit the kit, to make them work I did not use the bottom flat tread, and I didn't use wheel former, which wasn't needed.

When it says add weight to the front, add a lot of it. I just used a couple of nickles, and it wasn't enough. Then I poked a hole in the top of the nose gear (which I built hollow like the C130) and stuffed flattened out .177 lead pellets into it.... still not enough weight. Finally I poked a whole it the bottom where the nose wheel goes and stuffed about a dozen flatted pellets in there and got the nose to stay down.

So (drum roll) here is what she looks like.

WOW, a magnificent model. You did a great build. She definitely isn't a tail dragger.

It was done, back in 2011. But in a much smaller scale.

1/144 B-24 "Minerva"

Yours is a very nice build!

I didn't see the 1/144 build.... That was back before I started building paper models. That is a nice little model though and well done.

Another nice build Beard. I didn't see where you said what the scale of your build is. Do you have a pic like pics 1, 2, or 5 that includes the whole wing? Just asking....

The model is 1/50. I have one picture with the whole wing, I just cropped most of them so you could see more of the plane.

Thanks for the nice comments guys.

I was thinking "didn't Ray build this one in little?"

I want to see all my B24 kits built...fullsize...but this one is near the top of the list.
This is definitely an interesting paint scheme.

And, wow, what a fine job!
I am stealing these photos as I type!
I must add these to the store listings.

You have made my day!!!
If you ever want to build another...just let me know, and its yours!
