Some build pics of the night fighter Defiant.
The gun turret in its original size cannot fit into the holding unit which has to be glued from inside the fuselage. Solution is by reducing the gun turret and all its components to 95% of its original size and it fits nicely and rotates freely without hindrance. The shark mouth graphics aligns perfectly. The front windscreen of the canopy needs reorganizing. For easy glueing, I suggest breaking it up into two parts. So much for now. Papermate |

Ya know, I originally had the windscreen like that, but flipped it because it didn't look right.
Have you tried the internal workings for the turret yet? |

Thanks, Don.
Aaron, I have modified your structure for the gun pivot support as per pics attached. I think, if you don't mind, the new structure is easier to do and more effective than the top braces. If the braces are not properly glued in place on the ceiling of the gun turret, the gun pivot will not tilt smoothly. For the guns to tilt freely, the supporting structure has been trimmed down for about 2 mm and it fits pretty good and the tilt unhindered. Perhaps you can leave the origin as it is and make a note as an option. Papermate |

And it moves! That's always fine to see such features on paper models

I almost fainted when I saw how nice the fuselage nose section is... everything looks just right!

I wanna start adding moving bits where appropriate on models. It's an added challenge that makes designing more interesting.

Very fine build and tweeks. Looking forward to getting this one for minor squadron mods for an RCAF machine.

Here's some improvement to the structure of the gun turrets for the Defiant. And the pics
are pretending to be build instructions that you can refer to when the models are in your hands. Steps 3 to 5 have been overtaken by event after I did some revision of the gun turret construction. The basics are the same, wrapping the gun pivot securely. I think it's the easiest and surest way to ensure that the guns move and stay in place. You know, building the petalled gun turret is a pain i.t.a. and there should be some easy way out for the turret support to make us happy. Papermate |
