Hi Pepo,
Things are looking good but I concurewith Isaac's remarks. Also I suggest you place the mould on a small pedestal that doesn't protude and also drill a few more holes in the vacuum plate, there's room for it I noticed in your pictures. I'd say that the surface area of all holes together should be equal to that of the vacuum cleaner, than you maximize the use of its suction power. If you have something like an electrically heated grill plate, this will be easier to handle than putting the frame with the foil in an oven. It also goes much faster. i have been experimenting with a vacuum box last year for the first time and much to my surprise found it relatively easy. There are a few great tutorials on Youtube how to make a vacuum box. Here's the one that inspired me: How I Built a Vacuum Forming Machine The link to my thread of Yoav's Mirage IIIC: Yoav's Mirage 3C 1:33 scale Hope you find it useful. Good luck! Erik |

Thank you all, I really appreciate it. I tried 14 times and with the 3 quite good results. I`ll go with the wooden box (more resistance against heat in the oven), I tried also heat gun. Yes the hoof was on the rough corrugated carton as a pedestal to get air suction also under the hoof. The hoof was polished but the ribs were still replicated to the canopy. I used Durofol PVC or PE foil (I do not know exactly) instead of acetate with thickness 0.2mm. I start with another parts, because for the moment the canopy made me crazy.

My suggestion is that you build a block unter the canopymold that the bottom of your vacuum plate is a bit lower than the bottom of the canopymodel itself.
This makes sure that the sidewalls of the canopy do not have a "fillet" at the bottom. Plus you can cut out the canopy with a bit surplus material to achieve a better fit. And the material will be thinner at the top.

I don't use an oven or stove top burner to heat up the plastic....I use a heat gun. Wagner brand found at either Lowes or Home Depot. I heat the plastic up in my "frame" and when showing signs of the sagging, I place on top of the box which has the vacuum running already. I also place my plug up higher that what you show in your pictures. And to make sure I get a good canopy, the heat gun allows me to continue putting heat at a lower heat setting until I am satisfied the vacuum has formed the canopy well enough to my liking.

Thank you guys for the support. Here is the preparation for the coating. I noticed that the printer leaves random micro scratches so therefore I have to very precisely check every printout if is with scratch or not, horrible work. The fillout between ribs is depron, extruded PS.

Spring time comes and therefore not so many time for building up.

good work with covering the frame with the skin.

That complex color scheme must make the covering a challenge. Many areas that had to match up.
It looks very good. Don |
