Here are pictures of the first finished engine complete and mounted. The second one is also installed but dead camera battery prevented picture for this entry.

Also, Isaac, your question about stability should be answered soon....

Both engines mounted and vertical stabilizers started.

Skinning these stabilizers will be a challenge. the hinge pin needs to be installed during the skinning process for the aft portion. I fear this may be tricky.

Way behind on updates here again.

Anyway, got the vertical control surfaces done and installed, the main landing gear fabricated and installed and the horizontal control surfaces built up and installed.

The main gear tires had several stepped layers of lamination, so I slathered on some automotive glazing putty, chucked the wheels into my newly acquired rotary dremel style tool and sanded to shape. there is just enough of a hint of the layers after paint to suggest tread.

The horizontal control surfaces are quite complex and required many extra appendages that I was not born with.

I have two turrets with machine guns and the main canopy yet to build up and install. This one is finally winding down.

Love those flaps / control surfaces and especially the trim tabs.

Superb work. Eye catching subject.

Real plane observation

I do not think that the real plane could have been controlled in flight. This flying wing has so many things hanging on it that I find it to be unstable with just manual control surfaces.

Love this bird though.

Supposedly this plane made about 47 flights during it's short prototype life. It was underpowered but no other issues were noted on its controllability.

As it happened, Kalinin was arrested and executed as a political prisoner by Stalin before testing and development could be concluded.

At least that's what the internet says and we all know everything on the internet is true....

Spectacular model! What did you use for the control surface push rods?

Control surface rods are all made from bead wire fastened mostly with straight pins cut to length.
