YG-model Kalinin K-12
I have been planning my projects for next year's model club meetings here in Burlington and chose this one for the multi engine build for September 2017.
Thought I would start it now though. Items 1 through 3 have been constructed and consist of the steering yoke, foot pedals and a seat. Build up is not too bad but fit is not exact. Overall, though the results are good an I had an acrylic craft paint (Apple Barrel Colors - 20227 Blue Iris) that is a very close match to the printed blue of the parts. greg

Great choice of a very unusual plane.
Sort of like the video game Crimson Skies in which all these weird and wonderful planes are flying around. Isaac

Last week I was traveling for business but, since I drove, I was able to take this project along and work on it in the evening.
Fit continues to be good with the only hiccup so far being the cockpit fuselage section skin. There are inner and outer skins. The inner skin fit OK at the seam area but there was some gap at the top between skin and former. The outer skin could have been just a touch longer so the seam would be flush there as well. Before you say anything, there are fold lines at the bottom that dictated skin placement. I forgot to pack clear glazing, so I used a piece of clear cellophane from a bag of pork rinds for the gauge bezels. For whatever reason, I did not realize this model had 8 bombs. They fit fine but needed paint to look right. I really like the way the instructions/diagrams are arranged for this model. There is also a page identifying what parts are on each page, so you don't have to hunt much to find what you need. greg

Time to catch up!
The fuselage sections are all but joints as you can plainly see. Also they all have to layers of skins, an inner one with color for the interior which is not always visible and an outer one. there are no connecting tabs. Also 15b and 17b floor parts are marked opposite of each other and need swapped in the build. So, in hindsight, I have found fit of the skin parts to be a bit troublesome and the butt joints of the sections are a bit rough. They look OK by the three foot rules (view from three feet (1 meter) away, but are a bit ugly the closer you get. Also the ink does not like anything other than PVA glue. AC glue softens the ink allowing it to come off. The Tail section had petals and was done in several pieces so I built up the inner skins first with bond paper joining strips, then I wrapped it with the outer skins. Not real happy with the end result of all this, but I'll live with it. Now on to the nose section with clear parts and more convoluted skin parts... greg
