Cool Wing center spar mods

The kit provides a card center spar. And you know me by now, if it looks weak, I strengthen the design. In this case I replace it with a wood section similar is shape, but no cutouts for the ribs.

Here it is

and center spar in place, but not yet glued

Glue the wing frame in place ( note the small clamps I used ). Make sure you got the proper dihedral.

add a small angle bracket to the forward spar to the fuselage rib

and here it is with both wing frames attached.

Smile Wing dry fit

Now, lets see how the wing fits over the frame.

No gluing yet

Looks OK, will need some minor internal adjustments to the frame around the landing gear bay.

Cool Wing attached

I needed to add an additional glue tab at the wing root to allow the wing to slip over the rib smoothly ( top and bottom ).

Now glue the wing on

add a partial rear spar to the location of the flap cutout. I will also drill it later to accept the flap

Cool Flap assembly

The rear partial spar ( made of wood ) has been added to the open area where the flap cutout is at. This adds both strength as well as keep the skin in the back from curling.

Now come the flaps. In addition to the top and bottom skins, I added a forward and side sections. There is also an internal spar to keep the shape of the flap.
also, I added metal guides to attach to the rear wood spar. Dril holes to match the location

dry fit, do not glue the flap yet till the end

Now that looks really cool, Isaac. Are the flaps movable with those metal pins?

Gary

They can be movable if you want ( need small guide tubes though ) since the flap was cut out from the wing and fits flush. However, I will pose them down since I like it like that.

Neat work, Isaac. I did the same thing on my PZL elevators (twisty tie wire)!

Your model is neat and clean. Love it.
