Smile Flaps are on

At this point, the flaps are attached in the down position

Smile more cockpit details

A few additions to the cockpit. The gun site reflector will be added later when the canopy goes on to prevent damage to it.

Again, there is little detail in this cockpit, but I get it as this is not designed to be a very complicated kit.

Still to be done is the canopy, tip tanks and pitot tube.

Thanks everyone.

I must say that this kit print quality is superb. Handling it is a bit delicate since bending it causes the printed surface to crack. But the dark blue color handles it well. Not sure if you get the same rich color if you print it on an inkjet printer though.

Smile Tip tanks

An interesting feature of the plane were the huge fuel tanks on the wing tips.

The main reason they are on the tips instead of under the wings was the reduction in airflow going under the top of the wing and over the tip causing a loss of lift and extra drag. So they placed the fuel tanks all the way out there to reduce this phenomenon.

Kind of crazy if you ask me. Just make the fuselage longer and store the fuel in a more conformal way rather than high drag externally. We still have the same issue in today's fighters that drag the fuel externally thinking they could jettison the tanks when those are depleted.

Anyhow,

Here are the parts

and the assembly

and dry fit to the wing. The fins will be added later to minimize damage to them.
