I think the safe way is to form a brand new canopy using the kit parts to make a new mold and then vacuform it.

Isaac, it was me that you got the laser frames from. I had them and I believe you had the kit. May have been the other way around, LOL, but either way, glad to see this kit built, and knowing to what caliber you build, I know it will be great. Can't wait to see it finished.

A small world. Glad you remembered!

I am grateful that you let me get both as it makes it easier to build.

As soon as I am done with my Mig-9, I will start on the Fury.

FJ-1 Fury canopy vs P-51 canopy

Good news, if true. However, a look through Paul Matt's U.S. Navy and Marine Corps Fighters, and Jim Mesko's Squadron-Signal pub, FJ Fury in Action reveals nothing about a P-51D canopy being used, and this U.S. Naval Institute blog discussion (https://blog.usni.org/2009/05/04/ori...ican-fj-1-fury) casts doubt. Wish Mike Scalingi (bomarc), the font of all truth and wisdom on anything North American Aviation, were still in the Forum. I'll bet he would know or know how to find out.

The Rob Carleen tutorial of him designing the Fiddlers Green FJ-1 includes him modifying the P-51 canopy to be a Fury canopy.

Sorry

This will not do.

It is such a simple looking canopy he is doing that may be OK for a FG model, but it is not realistic to vacuform it like this.

Thanks

May I suggest an F-82 Twin Mustang canopy? They come(came?) two
per/pack from GPM. I know they're pretty scarce on the ground but that's what I intend to use on the YG P/F-51H as well as one of the three F-82 kits out there. Shouldn't be too hard to massage it onto your FJ-1.

Barring that, what about the rear portion of a Tempest II canopy? Scrabbling thru my stash just now, it appeared to have promise. Actually, any number of available tear-drop canopy rear sections should be doable with a little modding.

Forming a mold from the kit parts and pulling your own canopy has been suggested. That, really, may be your best option...

Thumbs up Getting ready

I began studying the kit in detail now. I will start building after a warm vacation soon.

looks simple. The key will be to keep it clean as the publisher printed it very professionally. I sprayed the pages with clear coat. Details later.

Cool Lets start- reference info

The Fury was the first operation jet of the US Navy.
info here:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/North_American_FJ-1_Fury

essentially heavily inspired by the P-51 Mustang and you can see the similarity in the wings, tail and canopy.

Being the first jet in the navy, it had lots of shortcomings. Nevertheless, it was a good simple start.

so first, I looked to the internet for reference photos

and then I remembered that I saw a restored on at the Yanks aviation museum in Chino California.

so here are some pictures I took.

Build info to follow

Just before anybody gives up on the P-51 canopy:
Might a canopy from the P-51H help? It looks a lot more like the one on the Fury.
Most people tend to disregard the substantial differences between the P-51D and H, which was an almost complete rework of the D version.
