wing construction

Ahoy Gents
Back at the build another project got my attention now it is time to resume back to the P2. Okay drying time is done now its time to get her wings on. With this massive size kit the wings are a little difficult because of size, Using the ribs and spars and filler plates on the wings gives the structure strength these ribs and spars have been assembled wings are preformed and ready to fold to shape the wings went together very well everything is fitting together very well. A technical note here the fuselage formers in the kit were not undersized from former 4 and 5 I sorted out the problem the skin No.5 was assembled backwards giving the former the undersized fit, since the problem was corrected the formers 4 and 5 went together very well problem solved and a happy camper here, Okay the right wing is now assembled to the right side of the fuselage fit is excellent letting the unit dry over night in the morning I will give the wing a good burnishing and proceed to the left wing in the same manner and the ailerons will follow here are the update pictures.

Wing assembly finished

Ahoy Gents
Update for today both wings are installed and completed. The hardest part of the build is the basic sub assembly of fuselage tail feathers and wings everything else is a piece of cake. I was surprised with the complexity of the wing assemblies the wings have no warps this makes me happy with joy. Next will be the remaining of the fuselage parts such as antenas and such not much left then I will build the ailerons and other wing parts such as heater tanks. another week this build will be done the fit of parts are good in the kit thus far a little trimming here and there will ease the construction of the kit. This is a big plane like that of the B-17 build Dutch or Netherlands markings. Okay fellas here is the update pictures of the build now I will let the entire plane dry and go back and do some burnishing on the wings and tuning thing up.

The wings, as well as the rest of the assembly, are looking mighty fine Boats. If I may ask, I understand what you mean by burnishing but am having trouble actually doing it. Could you oblige with a few pictures demonstrating how you do it? I'd appreciate it. Thanks!

Indeed, boats, if you would show a little about burnishing I too would love to see how it's done.

Looking great!
I also wonder what you use as a burnishing tool and how it's done. Your seams are perfect!

Thank You,

Fuel tank assembly

Ahoy Gents
Another update build report okay I moved on top the wing external wing tanks or heater tanks they are simple to make nothing more then skins without formers. On the next update I will demonstrate the burnishing technique my favorite burnishing tool is the old teaspoon. now its time to let this beast dry over night and burnish the wing tanks tomorrow next assembly will be the engine nacelles and wheel wells. then the landing gear will follow she needs her legs to stand on this is a huge kit to say the least as you can tell I work in tight quarters every time I swing the plane around it knocks something off the shelf . Okay here are the update pictures of the build starting to look like a Neptune.

Okay update fort the today is the assembly of the engine nacelles the engine nacelles are like the fuselage skins and formers they went together very well without any hair pulling one engine nacelle has been completed and the other one is being assembled will post the entire model with both engines nacelles in place on the next update. Next will be the landing gear assemblies she needs her legs so she can stand proud all of the hardest parts of the kit is done everything else will flow in place. Had to catch up a little with this thread. Nice progress in between Boats, she's looking good. I'm curiously awaiting your tutorial on burnishing. The tea spoon's already there in one of the pictures.

Cheers,
Erik
