"Classic Paper Planes" to Build and Fly
I've had this book "Classic Paper Planes" by Michael Johnson and Alan Austin for a couple decades but I finally got around to building a couple. Since this is my first attempt at paper modeling I'm not sure how these compare with others out there. But as a novice I appreciate the die-cut parts.
This book contains 10 planes. Each plane has a 2 to 3 page history and then a single page isometric assembly drawing. I've searched around and have found a couple mentions of this book (on this forum) but I haven't seen any photos of completed models posted. Very, very nice, Marc. The quality of your builds makes it look like you've been doing paper for a long time.
Gene K P.S. The Monoplane appears to have too much up thrust. |

These are terrific. I like the look of the rotary engines and the nicely formed cowls.

Marc, I congratulate you on your great decision to make the models in this book.
I also bought this book in a smalltown Kiwi bookshop in 1989. About 2 years later I made the disastrous decision to construct the Blackburn monoplane. I've had the book stored since then, thinking it beast left alone. Didn't have a site like this then! Well done. Antz |

With models that nice, why would anyone want to ruin them by flying them?

Thanks guys. I do have some modeling experience mostly with balsa radio controlled airplanes. But I'm having to learn a new set of skills with paper. A big lesson learned is the order of assembly as the isometric drawings don't explicitly detail that.
Very true. Thanks for the photo link. My version would be a poor flyer indeed. Marc |

I bought the same book second hand on Amazon a few years ago. I haven't built any of the models yet. The graphics are fantastic but, disappointingly, the die cuts are off on my copy. This is especially evident on round pieces like the wheel covers. Some models have more of a problem than others, though. Perhaps your great looking builds will inspire me to take a crack at one. Nicely done!
