Here's a candidate for your next bizjet, Aaron: Lockheed Jetstar from a certain four-letter agency....

And you could do the Auric Enterprises paint job, and the C-140 USAF version of James Bond fame from the movie Goldfinger

Ahh, the lead sled. I flew both the jetstar I and II. Civilian version. Great plane to fly. I wouldn't mind seeing one of these myself.

This Lockheed design looks like a study in waste management. Four tiny engines and those huge fuel barrels stuck in the wings. They should have sized the fuselage to accommodate the fuel needed, keep the wings clean and select bigger engines that could have been derated and would have saved fuel.
Those exciting designs of the 50's and 60's when the business aviation was just starting. That said, I totally love an airplane with lots of engines and stuff hanging out. Isaac

The wings were full of fuel as well as those barrels in the wings. Just so much room in a plane to put fuel, and with four fuel hungry engines to feed, you need lots. This plane also had issues with wing panels and corrosion.
If you notice the Jetstar II had indeed put four larger, more fuel efficient engines on it, and the tanks went under the wing, instead of through it. There was talk of doing a mod to use just two larger yet engines, but that never happened. |

Once a plane is built , it is too much work to re engine by changing their number. Even the B-52 was a candidate to re engine from 8 to 4 large turbofan. It never happened.
The layout has to be done up front. Same with the external tanks. Keep it clean and the plane will have less drag. Isaac

Anybody know if the Coast Guard used Jetstars?
Pima has 3 They did a program a few years back where they turned "artists" loose on a few scrap and extra planes they had lying around after removing all usable parts...somebody else can do those repaints. Found this cool military one: And NASA |
