Lavochkin LA-11 Nightfighter

Hi folks,

the "paper virus" got me very heavy, so I started parallel to my Mig-3 a new project from Dr. Emil Zarkov, the LA-11 with north korean markings.

Here is sth. about the history of this plane:
Designed as an all metal inheritor of the famous WW II wooden Lavochkin La 5 and 7,
encapsulating the latest Russian, American and German achievements in aerodynamics and piston
engines, this aircraft has remarkable flying characteristics. But it was too late - it was not capable to
compete with new jet powered fighters. La-11 saw military combat service in the Korean War as a
night fighter. Practically the aircraft itself was used as an executive part of the complicated weapon
system, that includes a ground radar detecting and guiding components. Without onboard radar, the
nightfighter has been guided from a ground radar station operator to nearness to the target. The final
approach, aiming and gunfire have been made visually, by using onboard searchlight, mounted on
the left wing of the aircraft.
So much for pathos:D
The cockpit section is already finished, photos will follow.

Stay tuned,

Stephan

Here are some screenshots of the kit, the cover and a sheet as an sample.
There are no weathering and the details are not much, but I will add some later on.
Regrettably there are no belts for the pilot seat, so I added some of the Mig-3:D
As I promise...photos will follow, guys....and ladies....thatīs the correct term of adress:p

So long

Stephan

So..here are the results of building progress so far.
Completed the inner cockpit section and glued two fuselage sections together. The fittings....who wonders...great, typical Modelart quality, as I found also at the Mig-3.
The details in the cockpit are a little poor, so I added the belts, looks much better now.

Stephan --

I am delighted to see this thread. I am very interested in 1948-1951 KPA Air Force aircraft and am glad to see this La-11 in DPRK markings. I would love to see the Marek 1/50 Yak-3 in North Korean Markings, but the La-11 was very good-looking airplane (in my opinion) and your work so far looks outstanding to me.

Although current teaching work has taken me away from paper modeling and this forum temporarily, I will make a point to check in on the progress of this build, for sure!

Don

Hello Stephan! Your build looks all right so far.

So the model from Dr. Zarkhov comes without seat belts? Are you adding more details from the Mig-3?

Also, what kind of paper are you using for this model?

As I can see, this will be a very good looking airplane when done. I'll keep an eye on your thread.

Hi Gerardo,

well, I added the radio section from the Mig-3, it looks a little oversized, but allright.
Yes, the LA-11 is one of the early models from Dr. Zarkov, there are not so many details, but fitting is sensationell good for me as an novice.
Thanks for your kind words, I added a lot more fuselage sections, photos will follow.
Ah, yes, I printed the coloured parts on 160g/mē card and the rest ( formers and strips) on ordinary plain paper.
Sorry, I donīt know the american designation for papers, so I could only tell you the european one.

CU,
Stephan

Paper I use for some models to print at home is 120 gr, so I guess your 160 is strong enough for these one.

Hi Gerardo,

I love your way of modeling and found lots of nice videos on YouTube.
They are inspiration for a newbie in cardmodeling like me.
I hope I can reach your quality standards someday.

Greetings from germany,
Stephan
