Smile Vertical fin

The aircraft has a fairing from the canopy aft to the vertical stabilizer which is very distinctive of aircraft in those days ( usually an after thought when they realized that the skinny fuselages did not have internal room to house wires, ducts and equipment ).

Lets add the frames to the rear.

and now the fin itself

dry fit over the frame

Cool Upper spine

Here are the parts
Super Mystere-Yoav's version in 1/30 scale-img_3238.jpgSuper Mystere-Yoav's version in 1/30 scale-img_3239.jpg

also, I will build this model with the canopy open. The design is similar to what the Republic F-84F looks like. The canopy has a master lever in the back that swings up and pulls the canopy with it.
here are some pics I found on the internet with details from a plastic model.

so I cut the lever arm from the first section. Details will need to be added later on.

little note Isaac....
the fairing from the aft of the canopy(where you cut the piece for the opening canopy) till the beginning of the fin should be more round.....especially the parts painted in grey.

YOAV
I will try to correct it

I think we need small frames there to keep the shape correct

Excellent step-by-step images. Appreciate the info on the canopy mechanism. All your usual clean, precise work. Bravo.

Happy Passover.

Isaac
frames no needed...i did this without any frames...only shaping more round the parts before install them.
you can shape the parts with gently a little bit wet the inner side with damp cloth....and after that the parts is very strong and yet with the desired form.

here some examples.

good luck

YOAV
