Thanks for the ideas, Don...and the link to FG. Great shots of the (ugly) old girl. I kinda like her.
Here is a tiny update. I'll try to add the bottom wing next tonight but for now I made the prop and finished the engine, nose and cowl bumps. Looks ok but I do think I'll use something else for the exhausts. They look a bit silly being too 2-D for my tastes and they are such an iconic part of this plane. Maybe she'll be done this weekend???? Cheers, Dan |

Thanks for the encouragement, Jeff et al.!
I put the landing gear on with no trouble. The lower wings, however, sagged like a madman. I didn't add a wire support such as the one seen in Wayne's Short 184 and was paying the price. So I tried a sort of crude experiment. I added a piece of clear plastic scored and folded to the approximate dihedral angle and glued to the bottom. It won't be seen unless I display it upside down and now the lower wings are nice and sturdy. Ready to accept the top wings! See what you think... I also posed the ailerons moved around to give the model a more animated look when done. Cheers and have a good week, Dan |

Dan,
Nice work. The separate ailerons add a lot of detail to the model. Keep up the great work. Gary

Nice save Dan! Model is looking really good. Maybe it's my eyes but I can't see the plastic in the second pic.

That's a great fix, Dan. The model looks terrific.
Knowing about this issue, I would be inclined to add a spar before gluing up the wing if I try this model. Don |

Thanks, Folks...
To be clear....there are spars for the stab and both wings in the kit. That's not a kit problem. They are simply long rectangles that hold everything together and line things up. Worked fine on the stab. Those pieces are also the only ones on the sheets with red numbers. Perhaps that means glue them to cardboard! I may just be a dork. The only other thing is that there are no shots of what the dihedral should be... Anyway, my fix is crude but effective. More soon and thanks for looking. Dan |
