I would love if there was a USAF camouflaged version and load it up with lots of bombs. Sort of like using a beautiful racing horse stallion to haul freight Isaac

Fuselage AIM-9 launchers- catamaran
The F-104 being challenged with wing positions had additional hard points under the forward fuselage. In this case they invented this contraption called catamaran ( since it looks like it ) and bolted it to the underbelly aft of the nose gear bay.
Here are some variants of this launcher design These launchers are not part of this kit ( nor any other designer ), so I am making them from wood and paper. These are very simple versions and I am sure someone out there can design proper versions that were used on the West German versions. however, I made a dummy fuselage section to simulate that location without damaging the finished model here is the first fitting the parts painted grey color dry fit to the fuselage and the assembly now dry fit again Isaac

Well done Isaac. Congratulations with the result! I like it that you used all the loads provided with the kit. I think it would have been a small deal for the designer to include the catamaran rack for the sidewinders. But let's not complain - KK made a fine model and it's worth some advertising.
Regarding the extra rack for the sidewinders, hope you don't mind if I include this picture here of Big Brother and his smaller sibling, The Wilhemshavener F104G in the early silver colors. At the time I finished this 1:50 model in 1995 I had made a similar rack as well, as it wasn't included in the model, just like the KK F104G. So, there it is. Looking forward to your next build. Cheers, Erik |

Nice to see the additional Sidewinders on the fuselage. I remember building the 1:50 scale version back in the 1960's. I thought it was a great model to build then. The KK kit is really excellent and I do like it a lot. Maybe someone can design the catamaran racks and upload it on this forum so others may use it as well. Thanks for following. as far as my next model build: I am trying to print a kit , but my Epson printer is producing goofy colors and is not to be trusted. I am troubleshooting the setting, but so far I am going thru 9 pages of psychedelic pages printed. Not real at all . And yes, there is plenty of ink in each cartridge. Isaac

very good work on the bird and the armament Isaac.
another thing.... the F-104 is a clasic bird with a smooth lines, but in my humble opinion all the armament and the drop tanks makes him losing his elegant beauty. other jets, like F-4, A-4, F-15 and like them.....the full armament and the drop tanks make them looks better and tough on the ground....but this is my opinion. but again...well done my friend YOAV |

You are 100% correct about this plane. It is such a clean and sleek looking plane that it is a shame to add things to it. However, in real life, this plane was not able to perform its job in a clean configuration. For me it makes no difference as I like to load all my planes with as much of a load as possible. as a kid, most of the models were built in a clean and flying configuration, but that changed. Thank you Be well happy Shevuot. Isaac
