Exclamation Center section framing

This is the heart of the model.

Lots of frames put together here, but very necessary as that section transitions sharply in shape and also houses the main landing gear bay

Also, the kit has two options to beef up the wing spars. I chose as always to make sure it is strong and Super glued a large metal paper clip segment in place. The reality is that these are very short wings and there is not a lot of load on them, but you should always beef up the wings and landing gear so they do not sag in a few months later.

start adding the landing gear walls and internal frames.

and here is the general arrangement with the forward fuselage before the skin goes on.

Cool Center section skin

The skin of the center section will need to transition from a lobed shape in front to a round shape in back. So careful fitting and shaping needs to take place.

The additional feature is to cut out the opening for the main landing gear bay. This is where you finish adding the gear bay walls. The rest of the details later.

F-104G Starfighter- Kartonowa Kolekcia 1/33 scale-img_3743.jpgF-104G Starfighter- Kartonowa Kolekcia 1/33 scale-img_3744.jpg

dry fit and shape

since the glue seam is on top, I started to glue only the the area at the bottom where the gear bay keel is located. continue shaping and fitting.

then join on top.

That center section turned out very well Isaac. Apparantly you did not have the fitting issues that I had. Looking at the keel, good for you to have the laser cuts. I remember cutting out all the small openings myself. Disasterous work....

Cheers,
Erik

Exclamation

Erik

It took a lot of dry fittings and rounding to get the part to fit over the frames , not an easy task

Thumbs up Join center to forward sections

Now we can join the forward section to the center section. Note that the rear frame of the forward circular section is glued to the center section forward face in between the engine inlet lobes. This way, you get a centered joint.

The sections

and glued.

Question Going aft

Now going aft.

I added one more section to the center.
Here it is; fit is good.
F-104G Starfighter- Kartonowa Kolekcia 1/33 scale-img_3761.jpg
F-104G Starfighter- Kartonowa Kolekcia 1/33 scale-img_3762.jpgF-104G Starfighter- Kartonowa Kolekcia 1/33 scale-img_3763.jpgF-104G Starfighter- Kartonowa Kolekcia 1/33 scale-img_3765.jpg

but it looks strangely "poofy" like it bulging outward or curving up toward the rear. I am not sure what is going on here or is it my error somehow? Decision soon.
