Don,
Can't wait to see your F-84G. I recently found out that it was included in the F84F kit and was looking to build it myself. As far as early jets, I'm in the same boat. The new hardware is interesting and cool, but it doesn't have the same excitement as the early stuff. Maybe because I was a kid back then when jets and space exploration was still very new. |

F-84f
Here is the Fiddlers Green F-84F-45-RE in the markings of the aircraft flown by Lt Col Charles Simpson, 78th Tactical Fighter Squadron, 81st Tactical Fighter Wing, RAF Woodbridge, England, 1958. Scale 1/60
Designed by Rob Carleen and Kancho Iliev, the graphics for this model are crisp and clear, and the parts fit together perfectly. Any shortcomings are due to me. This model brought back a memory from 1955 when I was at Civil Air Patrol summer camp at Langley Field and watched F-84Fs running up their engines at the end of the runway and then rolling down the runway and soaring into the air. After the Paper Modelers at Army Heritage Days event is behind me, I will provide some info on the construction and try my hand at the straight-wing F-84G. Don |

Maybe it is that so many different approaches were tried out with very little technology to know exactly what would work without an actual flying version, and not just fighters, and not just the US (they just had more money to throw at a concept). After the 50s they get too expensive to throw money at just anything (and perhaps particularly at aircraft that can do a lot of different things...more bang for the buck )

This is going to be a collection worth seeing grow. I've now got a hankering to build one of these. Dammit, another subject avenue to explore.

Hi Don, very well done! "Cute" is not really the right word with respect to military models, but they sure do look so! The Sabre nose intake is great.
I'm not sure if the US is familiar with this (Belgian) comic series called "Buck Danny". It's about a US pilot and his friends, timelessly and agelessly flying in aircraft from between the WW2 up to the stealth eras, and going from adventure to adventure. In one of his adventures Buck has to take on a Russion opponent and the place of action is situated in Korea, with the Sabre in the main role. The very realistic aircraft drawings are impressive and the aircraft involved have the same livery style as your model. Regards, Erik |

Nice work Don,
Better than the story line in the movie "Jet Pilot" from the same time period starring John Wayne and Janet Leigh. Jeff |
