Aaron has done a real service by designing his accurate and buildable Seabee. In my experience, his models invariably go together well and the parts fit beautifully.

Yukon John is doing us a service as well, through his recolor and build. Lots to learn in this thread.

On the subject of Seabee's in various media, there is also Gil's astonishing ultrarealistic bare metal Seabee project, still underway: Republic RC-3 Seabee

And Johnny's earlier investigations: http://www.papermodelers.com/forum/320451-post17.html

It's probably from the same moulds, but I have a 1/72 Seabee plastic kit by Mach 2. (A french company). It has decals for Indochina Francaise 1949 or Israel 1048. It looks pretty good, but I lost the use of my fingers before completing it. One day maybe.

There's a couple of the Mach-2 Seabees on eBay at the monment ...

In UK ... Access Denied

In USA ... Access Denied

Dunno why the links come up access denied ... they do seem to work.

Err? Not any more they don't. Correction, they do but you have to click on the 'Continue to eBay' link.

There is one certain way of finding out if it is the same mould: It had no transparent windows. Only Glencoe decided to inject it in transparent plastic and include in the decal sheets patterns for masking off the windows and paint the model. Very clever idea. The other versions were moulded in solid colours.

I have just seen the model available on Ebay. It is not the same mould because the Lindberg etc, moulds were in 1/48 scale, not 1/72 which will render a tiny scale model.

The Mach-2 one has transparent windows and an interior. It's just short of 5" long and all in all a pretty good model.

If you think that's small ... have you seen Bruno's 1:300 one in paper? I keep looking at it, but haven't dared start snippin' on it yet. I think one of Aaron's will be attempted first.

Agree!! It is not small. I just miscalculated the size of the full size SeaBee and thought it was smaller.

I don't want to hijack this thread, but here's my Seabee. It's a completely stock build from Murph's site. By the way, I have the Glencoe plastic Seabee kit up in the attic. It really shows it's age.

Sweet. That's one of the ones I need a picture of.

Very nice. Not a hijack at all - I always admire your work. Inspires me to get some more done on mine. By the way, I can't remember, do you spray yours before cutting out, or after the build is done?

Regards,
John

I spray a light coat before building and a heavier coat once done. I use Kryon spray paint from the local Walmart. I don't know if it's available up in the great white North.
