Yes, from what I remember, the change happened during production of the Spitfire mk V.

Agreed, the MK VII has individual exhaust stubs but I cannot find any more definitive data.

So I think I'm right.
If you say that the late versions of the Spitfire had 12 exhausts, and from what I know, the Spitfire of the Israeli Air Force was a later version, so it had 12 exhausts and not 6 like the model in this thread.

In all the pictures I know of the Spitfire of the Israeli Air Force, you see that in all the pictures the Spitfire has 12 exhausts.

It does appear that D-130 had all 12 exhaust pipes present...

Also to note that finding that scan led me to a fascinating article...

Ryan -

That's an outstanding aviation history article, and it seems to answer the three-vs-six exhaust stack question.

I only wish Alex Yofe had provided citations for his sources. It is possible to figure out many of them from the text. It may be that the Ventura journal doesn't allow foot or endnote citations. Presumably, if one wanted to do further research, one could contact the author. Having said all that, I am persuaded that Yofe did a prodigious amount of research and that this article can be considered authoritative.

Corey -

Your fine build and thread has led to some very interesting historical discussion! For me, such discussions and the evidence brought in by various participants, is one of the joys of this Forum.

Yes Don! You are quite correct. I always enjoy such descusions and discoveries.

I am a bit closer to being done. Got the under side and the elevators on. Starting to look the part. Next up the prop blades and under carriage.

Thanks.
I am nearly done. I have a wing antenna left and the prop blades. I added toothpick struts for the landing gear. The kit had simple printed gear on the undercarriage covers. This, like the flat engine exhaust ports must of been done to reduce weight as this kit could be made to fly.
