Murph's Models P-61 in 1/42nd
All,
Well, as promised, here is the start of my next present from my son. The Mossie went well and I suspect this one will be just as nice. So far, everything lines up well and it looks pretty slick. My only issue has been a slight error on the plans and it was an obvious typo and easy to figure out. You can see I numbered the mid-fuselage parts from the front tip and former 2 needs to go into the next section back from what's indicated. Super neat looking and I can't wait to finish this mid portion and on to the booms and wings! Cheers, Dan |

Thanks, All...this one if fun to put together since I think the curves and geometry are really interesting. Hard to believe how well it fits as paper. I still can't get over taking a flat sheet and forming something like this...
Parts fit well. I only had a bit of drama on one of the shells and needed to reinforce with a tad of balsa. Overall, freaking neat! Thanks for looking and more soon...Dan |

Getting better with each new photo.
It's true, about taking a flat piece of paper, printing some sort of kit on it, then twisting and turning and bending and folding until you get something that looks as good as the kit your building. |

Thanks RichL...this paper stuff still boggles my mind after 45 years of strictly plastic (with some balsa and tissue thrown in for good measure!).
Here is the state of affairs. The boom seems to fit very well indeed. I had some issues with the wing root but I'll cover that up with some black paper. I especially like how the cowl flaps are individual and will look nice and realistically ajar when done! The boom is just sitting there...no glue or final fitting as of yet. I'll try and get the other boom and the stab done tomorrow night. Cheers and thanks for looking, Dan |

Both booms are on and look ok. I foolishly used a black Sharpie on some edges and then it looked dumb, so then I even more stupidly outlined the whole connections of the booms with the top wing. Then...I triple stupidly used a dull coat to try and hide the shiny Sharpie...with the following result.
Still...it looks nice and ratty as the real one in D.C. appears pretty blotchy too (when I saw it!). I still think it looks mean and can't wait to get the rudders on there... Cheers, Dan |
