Nakajima Ki-43 - Halinski - 1/33

As announced, the next plane will be a Nakajima Ki-43, from Halinski. The kit was released in 2006, when they published more new (and good) kits than variants and alternative liveries.
My copy of the kit is in gloss paper. It is not apparent on the general kit pictures but the aluminum finish is very shinny. Gloss paper is not the best friend of white glue and I am expecting some difficulties...
The Ki-43 is an elegant fighter of regular size. So, not surprisingly, the kit has the usual 4 pages in color and two in black and white, in thin paper. Having a radial engine, the number of parts is close to 850. Quite respectable!

I look forward to this one. I always liked the appearance of the Ki-43. Forum member Bill Geoghegan built one of these when it first came out and displayed it at the International Paper Modelers' Convention in Sterling, Virginia, USA, around 2007 or 2008. It is an impressive model, and I will enjoy seeing you work your magic on it.

Ki-43 is one of the planes I would love to do in 1/50-48 scale but I haven't found one yet printed or digital. Some day...

NOBI offers four different 1/48 schemes and there are also three repaints of NOBI's model by Richard Schulten. They are available from eCardmodels and from the Zarkov site.

It will be interesting to see how the glossy paper works out.

glue that is suitable for glossy papers are non-water based glue....like the UHU glue.

white glue is based on water, and because of this it can easily cause stains on the glossy page and also easily deform it.

good luck with the new model.

I couldn’t agree more, YOAV! It is not a good idea to apply white glue on large surfaces. But I find white glue helpful to fix rapidly and solidly small parts. It will not be so easy, on this model…

@ Falco - I wonder if Halinski is exaggerating on the detail level. Hmm, we’ll see

Despite the radial engine, the cockpit is not very wide. The engine is relatively small and the cockpit base plate shows that the fuselage width decreases noticeably from front to the back.

Nice, clean, accurate beginning on the cockpit.
