Bell P-39N Airacobra, Halinski, 1/33
Hi,
I know that I haven't done Skjold yet but I decided to start new model. I chose Halinski's Bell P-39N Airacobra. Model is in 1/33 scale and it's designed by Marcin Grygiel. This model shows Lend-lease P-39N in Soviet painting scheme. It's plane of Soviet ace F.I. Shikunov. I have addons, laser cut ribs + canopy. I've done skeleton of the hull and frontal landing gear well. Tomorrow I will grind it and start working with cockpit. Lukas |

Hello,
I've done the cockpit. I didn't have big problems with it. I was just a little bit confused about seatbelts. Picture wasn't clear and instruction didn't say much about it. Anyway hope it looks fine. I have 2 questions. Actually asking for tips. 1. Do you have any good technique that allows you to roll stripes really tight? 2. Any good idea how to make nice and clear boxes? I am asking because I am not so happy with such elements. Plane looks like this at the moment. Now I am going to cover the skeleton. I found out that part of canopy that I've got with model is to short. I mean the part that covers cockpit behind the pilot seat. I've cut it straight according to the line on casting and when I put part 23a under canopy was too short for around 1-1,5 mm. But if I put part 23a on the canopy all is fine. In my opinion the plastic template should be between parts 23 and 23a. Correct me if I am wrong. Lukas |

Hello Lukas,
Nice work, so far. I have a copy of this kit (without the laser frames) and it will be interesting to follow. You mean the stripes that make up the instrument’s back? They look just perfect in the pictures. If they are printed on thick paper, I almost always delaminate and add the corresponding length in thin paper. If it is printed on thin paper, there should be no problem. I use the left thumb and forefinger for rolling while keeping the roll tight with tweezers held by the right hand. Regarding the boxes, Halinski likes to ignore tabs. I use a card rectangle to fix the box’s sides, gluing one at a time. The card part is just fine to provide gluing surface to link any box to any wall. |
