We agree that the designs of models has evolved to the point that real information is readily available on the internet, that it is much easier to obtain good reference information. Therefore it can be incorporated into the model design.

Then the next step is to try to recreate it in the model. As you said, some designers try to oversimplify, while others do not care and/or take artistic license.

There is always room for simple models and that is OK for some modelers. However, for the more detailed models, accuracy should play a greater role.

The same comment goes for colors. I know that colors are not easy to get exactly correct, but a bit more research can help the designer.

And lastly, realistic looking stencils and more important correctly oriented and not upside down.

Exclamation Speed brakes

Here are the speed brakes. The reality is that it has been over simplified in this kit and consists of an inner and an outer skin and an actuator.

So here it is in the extreme open position

( not 100% it extends that far ).

Looks like one of those funky frill necked lizards

The seat in this kit is different than the RF-84F kit from the same company. I guess they made improvements

i think is the same ejection seat like the Super Mystere.

look at the top handles and lower pull handles and also on the headrest.
the back of the ejection seat is almost the same.

Yes, the seats were similar. Same technology period drove the design to look the same.

Here is a sketch of the F-84F seat I found

Cool canopy

The F-84F canopy was opened via hinged links ) or a 4 bar linkage system in which the canopy was one of the "bars" and it lifted and raised up and aft. The primary reason it could not just slide aft is because it had the large fairing aft of the cockpit housing all sort of equipment. An alternative would have been to either hinge it on the side ( like an Me-262 or Mig-21 ) or hinge it in the back; this concept was also used on the French Super Mystere. More than one way to open the door

Here is the canopy , note that the forward links are long and will be cut to size when installed. I also added a small extension to the rear link to more correctly represent its position.

I like it.

This model would look good with the canopy closed as well

The model looks great, Isaac. I think the canopy open makes it easier to view the cockpit interior, so more details to see.

Thanks Gary. I like it open most of the time.

Some models are better looking closed though, so basically it depends on how I feel about it at the time.

I do agree, that this model looks better with an open canopy.

One of my future builds will be the F-86E Sabre. I may keep the canopy closed?

Cool Drop tanks

Here are the inboard fuel drop tanks. They are huge. I added more circular frames in each section to keep them round and stiff.
