I tried using the magnet thing myself on one of my 'flying model' builds. Be warned- build in a spacer (the bigger the magnets the bigger the spacer required) if you're using the rare earth magnets- they are REALLY strong. On larger models built from thicker card probably ok, but on my small builds the first time I tried to remove model from stand, the inner magnet started to rip straight out through the underside.
Yes Rata, I am with you, the strength of the magnet can be an issue. I have considered this potential issue and I intend to place rubber or cardboard washers between the magnet and the model. This way, the attraction strength will be adjutable at an acceptable level and, in addition, I'll can slip a screwdriver or any similar tool between the washers to separate the stand from the model without ruining it (I hope so …).
Cheers.

Hi friends,

Building of the SM B-2 is completed.
Eventually I have found an easy way to display it, using a small tripod for camera. The magnets have been affixed (neopren glue) on a nylon washer because the tripod screw threads is in US standard and does not allow to screw the magnets on the tripod directly. The concept of using iron pieces (nails for instance) inside the fuselage and magnets on the tripod works fairly well but must be improved. The nails had been glued on a piece of cardboard to strengthen the area of the fuselage in contact with the magnets : the piece of cardboard must have been thicker and larger since the fuselage tends to warp slightly. Initially there was a single magnet (4 kgf) but is was not strong enough to keep the model steady on the tripod. So, a second magnet (4kgf) was stacked on the first one. I feared it could be difficult to separate the model from the tripod, actually it is not. I have not re-opened my physics books to understand how much the applied strenght decreases according to the distance between the magnets and the nails but it is surprising how quickly it decreases. So, not an issue here. One feature of the tripod I appreciate is the ball stud. It allows to modify the aircraft attitude and display it like a “flower pot” (the given name to a plane withdrawn from service and on display at an AFB gate).
So, the show is over but I have planned to build again this model in the 1:33 scale to match the other Dassault planes in my private museum (Bloch MB152, Ouragan, Mystère II) and it will be equipped with landing gears !

A great thanks to Yoav and Yaron.

Cheers.

Great work! Those panel lines look so much neater than when I did it.
