@ Erik - good tip! I remember having trouble to close the wing skin, as the structure was a bit too large. This was one of my first Halinskis and I hadn't yet learned to cut the structure parts just inside the lines. I guess that laser cut parts center the laser on the line and, as the cut has a visible width, the effect is the same. The pictures show that the trailing edge formers are a bit inside the skin limit, as they should be.
Regarding the last picture, now, you have the real idea of the model's size

Flaps and ailerons

Hi guys, it's been a long time.... Working on this model takes a lot of time and concentration, both of which I've been very short of lately and for this reason I have decided to temporarily suspend the build, to avoid the risk of making mistakes due to hurrying. Real life gets in the way and modeling is not really on my mind now.

So herewith the latest progress to end with. The ailerons are in place and the flaps are patiently awaiting the same, however, to be continued at a later date .

In the mean time I will be doing some modeling but on less complicated things, to keep in shape.

Thanks for following up so far and be assured the model will be finished.

Indeed, the model size is quite big. It will not fit in the regular IKEA Besta cabinets I'm using for displaying I'm afraid. With time a solution will be found!

Cheers,
Erik

Real life is what it is...
It is fun to see that you are not alone choosing ailerons and the like between more complex assemblies

The build continues!

Hello everyone, it's been a very long time since I last worked on this model, already some three years ago and ever since it has been waiting patiently in a dust-free environment to be picked up again one day.

I left the build in 2018 with a lot of loosely cut out parts and unfinished assembled portions of the wings. A bit messy, and therefore I decided it would be better to start with the engine nacelles and props, which are a well defined sub-assembly. After gaining momentum again the loose ends can then be picked up again.

However....., plans have changed again recently, unexpectedly, and a bit reluctantly I stored the model again. The next chapter of the build has to wait a while longer and the reason for that will follow soon in a different thread.

In any case, it felt good to work on the Ju-88 again - to be continued .

Engine nacelles finished

Assembly of the engines is pretty much straight forward. I punched two holes in the rear bulkhead to allow for easier installation of the internal "skeleton" to the skins. The exhaust pipes take a lot of time to prepare, and also the propellers are labor-intensive. Everything fits perfectly. Propellers are fitted with a small brass tube inside the engine assembly and a ditto pin that fits in the tube. The props run smoothly.

Note that both engines are identical, not mirror-imaged. Also, exhausts on the left and right sides are different from each other. You would expect it to be the same.

Finally a coat of matt varnish.

Erik
