Thanks guys, well appreciated! Hmmmm, Isaac, LED lights in the cockpit, never thought of that but it sounds like a great idea. I have been checking a few sites but couldn't find anything simple and suitable.
I don't have experience with those lights for modeling application, perhaps anyone can give me a suggestion which brand/configuration to consider? Erik |

Pilot's seat and compass
Thank you Toddlea, I will check out the site. I intend to keep the cockpit entrance via the rear side of the gondala in open position so it should be possible to run a small wire with light(s) into the cockpit.
The last seat (parts 15/16) is reserved for the pilot. Again, an ingenious piece of design, which nicely fits inside the cockpit. Before installing the seat I built and installed the magnetic compass (part 10), a few other internals (part 17 - bomb aimer's equipment?) and a small box with a handle at the compass (part 18), which closes off the egg shaped hole at the upper side of the fuselage just in front of the wind screen. It looks like the calibration knob of the compass but I'm not sure, can't find a reference when looking for "Ju88 instrument panel" on the internet. It must have been very cramped in the cockpit. According to the technical details in the Polish description the crew consisted of 4, with one guy sitting on a folding chair right over the hole in the cockpit floor that gives access to the gondola. He must have been one of the gunners, going back and forth between the various machine guns, similar to the radio operator who I guess had a similar role. Next will be further details in the nose. You may find it interesting to compare the D-1 cockpit with the C-6. Quite similar to the left but very different to the right. I bet that the equally crammed C-6 cockpit was noisier with all that stuff firing! |

Very busy cockpit,
There was very little consideration given to proper access to instruments and controls and nothing to ergonomics. Sitting on a folded chair for hours was stupid engineering. Isaac
