I would be very happy if my model of this airplane turned out as well as yours. I've been enjoying all your model postings and am impressed with your initial skill and subsequent progress.
I will have to ask Nobi why he named this VT-6 bird a "Wake Island" TBD. No TBDs were ever stationed on Wake Island, which was occupied by the Japanese from 23 December 1941 to the end of the war. Perhaps it is because of the famous photograph of a VT-6 TBD over Wake during the first U.S. raid on the island on 23 February 1942: https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/F...sland_1942.jpg If so, that's a good enough reason for me. VT-6 (and USS Enterprise) were not present during the Battle of the Coral Sea, when TBDs still carried those same markings. So far as I know, by the time of Midway, where VT-6 took heavy losses, the red center had been removed from the USN national markings. In any event, Nobi always designs excellent, and historically accurate, models, and you have done a fine job on this one. Please keep on building and sharing your images and experiences with us.
